Ainsley Maitland-Niles struck a stoppage-time equaliser on his Everton debut to salvage a 2-2 draw against Manchester United on Sunday, denying Ruben Amorim’s side back-to-back Premier League wins after they had twice led at Hill Dickinson Stadium. Both teams scored twice in an eventful finish to a game United had largely controlled from the front foot early on.
United Twice Ahead, Never in Control
Bryan Mbeumo put United ahead three minutes into the second half, finishing off Luke Shaw’s pullback from close range. It capped a first half in which Everton barely laid a glove on the visitors.
Everton responded through Tyrique George, who dragged the hosts level with just over ten minutes left after a driving run down the left. United thought they had won it again soon after when Benjamin Sesko headed home Shaw’s cross deep in the closing stages.
Maitland-Niles had other ideas. Making his full debut after only a couple of days of training with his new teammates, he struck a first-time effort from around 30 yards that flew into the corner in stoppage time, according to ESPN.

Amorim Frustrated, Moyes Sees Room to Improve
Ruben Amorim did not hide his frustration with how United started the game. “We just played one half and we managed to draw the game, we didn’t exist in the first half,” he said, according to Sky Sports.
David Moyes, meanwhile, was not simply satisfied with a point against one of the league’s bigger spenders. “The disappointing thing for me is I think we had enough chances, and we should have been clinical,” he said, according to Yahoo Sports.
Moyes also pointed to Maitland-Niles’s lack of preparation time as reason for encouragement rather than concern, and praised George for his work drifting between both flanks in a performance he described as that of a talented young player still learning the level.

United will look to fix their sluggish starts before facing another test of Amorim’s rebuild, while Everton have shown they can find a point even when the game is slipping away from them. Moyes now has a decision to make over how much game time the new arrival gets after an instant impact, with the next round of fixtures likely to show whether either side can turn Sunday’s flashes of quality into consistent results.
