About Arsenal

Arsenal were founded in 1886 by workers at the Royal Arsenal armaments factory in Woolwich, south-east London, and first played as Dial Square. The club crossed the river to north London in 1913, played at Highbury for 93 years and moved to the nearby Emirates Stadium in 2006.

Herbert Chapman built the club’s first great side in the 1930s, which won five league titles in the decade. Arsene Wenger, manager from 1996 to 2018, won three Premier League titles and led the Invincibles of 2003/04 through a whole league season unbeaten.

Thierry Henry is the club’s record goalscorer with 228 goals, and David O’Leary holds the appearance record with 722. The club plays in red and white, and its nickname, the Gunners, and its cannon crest recall its origins at the Royal Arsenal.
