What is Indonesia Liga 2?
Indonesia Liga 2 is the second tier of Indonesian football. It is officially called the Championship, and fans still know it as Liga 2. Twenty clubs are split into West and East groups of ten, and the group winners go up to the Super League.

Garudayaksa won the 2025/26 title, their first, after PSIM Yogyakarta in 2024/25 and PSBS Biak in 2023/24. From 2026/27 the league is managed by a subsidiary, Liga Utama Indonesia.
For 2026/27, RANS Nusantara, Dejan and PSGC have come up from Liga Nusantara, and PSBS, Semen Padang and Persis have dropped down from the Super League. Three clubs went up to the Super League, and Sriwijaya, Persipal and Persekat went down to Liga Nusantara.

The story so far
The Premier Division was established in 1994 as the top tier of Indonesian football. When the Indonesia Super League was formed in 2008 it became the second tier. Between 2011 and 2013 two rival competitions ran side by side, and PT Liga Indonesia took sole charge again in 2014 after the rival league dissolved.
The top tier became Liga 1 in 2017 and the second tier took the Liga 2 name. The 2015 season was abandoned during the FIFA suspension, the 2020 season because of COVID-19, and the 2022/23 season after the Kanjuruhan Stadium disaster. VAR was used for the 2024/25 final and promotion play-off and across the whole league for the first time in 2025/26.
