About Aston Villa

Aston Villa were formed in 1874 by members of a Wesleyan chapel cricket team in Aston, Birmingham, and moved into Villa Park in 1897. The club was a founding member of the Football League in 1888 and dominated the Victorian era, winning five league titles between 1894 and 1900.

The club’s greatest night came in 1982, when Peter Withe’s goal beat Bayern Munich in the European Cup final in Rotterdam. After a 30-year wait for silverware, Villa won the Europa League in 2026 under Unai Emery, beating Freiburg 3-0 in Istanbul.

Harry Hampton is the club’s record goalscorer with 215 goals, and Charlie Aitken holds the appearance record with 660. Villa play in claret and blue, a combination that has defined the club’s identity for well over a century.
