About Bournemouth
Bournemouth were founded in 1899 as Boscombe Football Club and became Bournemouth and Boscombe Athletic in 1923, before taking the name AFC Bournemouth in 1971. The club has played at Dean Court since 1910.
For most of its history Bournemouth were a lower-league side, and in 2008/09 the club came close to going out of business. Under manager Eddie Howe, who returned for a second spell in 2012, Bournemouth won promotion from League One in 2012/13 and then won the Championship in 2014/15 to reach the top flight for the first time.
Bournemouth play in red and black stripes, and their nickname, the Cherries, is said to come from the cherry-red stripes on their shirts. Dean Court is one of the smallest grounds in the Premier League, which gives matchdays an intimate feel.
