About Brighton & Hove Albion
Brighton and Hove Albion were founded in 1901 and spent most of their history in the lower divisions. The club left the Goldstone Ground in 1997, played at Gillingham and then at Withdean Stadium, and moved into the Falmer Stadium in 2011.
Brighton reached the FA Cup final in 1983, losing to Manchester United after a replay, and came close to dropping out of the Football League in 1997. The rebuilding that followed the Falmer move led to promotion to the Premier League in 2017 and a first European campaign, in the Europa League, in 2023/24.
Brighton play in blue and white stripes, and their nickname, the Seagulls, reflects the seaside setting. The club has gained a reputation for smart recruitment, regularly developing and selling players for large fees.
