About Paris Saint-Germain

Paris Saint-Germain were founded in 1970 through the merger of Paris FC and Stade Saint-Germain, and play at the Parc des Princes in the west of Paris. The club’s blue and red colours come from the flag of Paris, and the Eiffel Tower and the fleur-de-lis appear on the crest.

PSG won their first Ligue 1 title in 1985/86 and, after Qatar Sports Investments bought the club in 2011, became the dominant force in French football, winning the league title in 2012/13 and in most seasons since. The club won the UEFA Cup Winners’ Cup in 1995/96, and the Champions League for the first time in 2024/25 and again in 2025/26, when it beat Arsenal in the final.

Kylian Mbappé is the club’s record goalscorer with 256 goals.

Rivals

Olympique de Marseille

Le Classique is the biggest fixture in French football, between the capital and the great port city of the south. It started to take on its present intensity in the 1990s, when both clubs were challenging for the title.

Olympique Lyonnais

The matches against Lyon have often been important for the title, especially in the 2000s and 2010s, and they carry the contrast between the capital and the third-largest city in the country.
