About RCD Espanyol

Espanyol were founded in 1900 by Ángel Rodríguez, a student in Barcelona, as the first club in the city made up entirely of Spanish players, and the name means Spanish. The club moved from the Olympic Stadium on Montjuïc to the RCDE Stadium in Cornellà de Llobregat in 2009.

Espanyol have won the Copa del Rey four times, in 1929, 1940, 2000 and 2006, and reached the UEFA Cup final twice, losing on penalties to Bayer Leverkusen in 1988 and to Sevilla in 2007. Their nickname, Els Periquitos, the parakeets, is thought to come from a former ground near a parakeet-filled area of Barcelona.
