About Liverpool

Liverpool were founded in 1892 after a dispute between Everton and the owner of Anfield, John Houlding, led Everton to leave the ground. Houlding formed a new club to play there, and Liverpool have been at Anfield ever since.

Bill Shankly arrived in 1959 and turned a second-division club into a national force, followed by Bob Paisley, who won three European Cups. Between 1964 and 1990 Liverpool won 13 league titles and four European Cups, and the club has added two more European Cups, in 2005 and 2019, and the Premier League in 2019/20 and 2024/25.

Ian Rush is the club’s record goalscorer with 346 goals, and Ian Callaghan holds the appearance record with 857. Liverpool play in red, and the club’s anthem, You’ll Never Walk Alone, is sung by the Anfield crowd before every home match.
