About Tottenham Hotspur

Tottenham Hotspur were founded in 1882 by a group of schoolboys, and took the name Hotspur from Harry Hotspur, a character in Shakespeare’s Henry IV. The club played at White Hart Lane from 1899 until 2017, then moved to the new Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, which opened in 2019.

In 1960/61 Spurs became the first club of the 20th century to win the league and FA Cup double, and in 1963 they became the first British club to win a European trophy, the Cup Winners’ Cup. The club later won the UEFA Cup in 1972 and 1984 and the Europa League in 2025.

Harry Kane is the club’s record goalscorer with 280 goals, and Steve Perryman holds the appearance record with 854. Spurs play in white, and the cockerel on the club crest has been part of its identity since the early years.
