What is the Saudi Pro League?
The Saudi Pro League is the top tier of Saudi Arabian football, contested by 18 clubs each season from August to May. Every club plays 34 matches, home and away, and the bottom three are relegated to the Saudi First Division League.
The league was founded in 1976 and has grown into one of the best-funded competitions outside Europe. Since 2023, Public Investment Fund ownership of four of the league’s biggest clubs helped attract a wave of high-profile international signings, including Cristiano Ronaldo at Al-Nassr, Neymar at Al-Hilal and Karim Benzema at Al-Ittihad, sharply raising the league’s global profile.
Al-Hilal are the competition’s most successful club by some distance, with 21 league titles to their name, the record for Saudi football. No other club comes close to that total, though Al-Ittihad and Al-Nassr have both won the title in recent seasons as the competition’s spending power has spread the trophy around.
Al-Nassr won the 2025/26 title, their 11th, finishing above the chasing pack. Al-Ittihad were champions the season before, in 2024/25, picking up their 14th title, and Al-Hilal’s most recent title before that came in 2023/24.

The story so far
Al-Hilal have been the dominant force in Saudi football since the league’s founding in 1976, and their 21 league titles remain well clear of any rival. For most of the competition’s history the title race ran through Riyadh and Jeddah, with Al-Hilal, Al-Ittihad, Al-Nassr and Al-Ahli sharing the bulk of the championships between them.
That picture changed after 2023, when Public Investment Fund backing turned Al-Nassr, Al-Hilal, Al-Ittihad and Al-Ahli into some of the highest-spending clubs in world football, with marquee signings such as Cristiano Ronaldo, Neymar and Karim Benzema arriving to raise the league’s global profile. Al-Hilal won the 2023/24 title unbeaten in the league, Al-Ittihad claimed the 2024/25 championship with their 14th title, and Al-Nassr responded by winning the 2025/26 title, their 11th overall.
